Background: To prepare our students for the expanding reliance on electronic communication they will face in their academic and professional careers, we would like to have each student create a Google account registered in their name. This is motivated by the convenience, speed, cost-effectiveness, and environmental advantages of using electronic communication and file generation rather than printed communication. We have chosen Google because of the inclusive and collaborative nature of Gmail and Google Documents. The service is offered free to registered users.

Purpose: To interact online with a tool designed to enhance electronic collaboration. In this session, you will face three primary objectives as you work toward the greater purpose of effectively using the iGoogle account.

Learning Objectives: While successfully completing the tutorial you will:

  • create a personal iGoogle account to be used for academic purposes by identifying and executing each step in the process
  • communicate professionally with a corporation established for the purpose of electronic communication
  • apply your new collaborative skill by sending and receiving email interaction with your teacher
